Iowa Business Lawyer is the original name Matthew Nuzum practiced under when he founded the firm in 2021. As the practice expanded into Texas, the firm rebranded to Surge Business Law PLLC. This site focuses on Iowa-specific business law content, and all legal services are provided through Surge Business Law PLLC.

We work exclusively with businesses that have 0 to 100 employees. Our clients include startups, established small businesses, and growing companies across Iowa. Whether you are forming a new LLC, buying an existing business, or dealing with a contract dispute, our practice is built around the legal needs of small business owners.

You can file the paperwork yourself, but the filing is only one piece. The operating agreement, ownership structure, tax elections, and governance rules are where most founders need help — and where mistakes are most expensive to fix later. We offer flat-fee formation packages that handle the full setup.

Our office is in Johnston, Iowa, just outside Des Moines. We serve businesses across the entire state — including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Ames, Davenport, Council Bluffs, and Sioux City.
